I'm Ryan, a 27 year old Stippling artist from Ireland.

From a very young age I had an admiration for art. I grew up being surrounded by it from my Grandmother who's a painter and my Uncle who has a hugely successful artistic life. It seemed that within each generation in our family there was a passionate artist. I just so happened to be the one amongst my siblings.

I studied art from primary school all the way up to secondary school. I wasn't even good at shading my art. I had to practice a lot to even reach the level of some of students' work in my class. But I practiced daily and I started to develop a discipline for tone values. I began focusing more on still life and capturing the different lighting. Then I just kept at it.

I ended up seeing the potential in my art and wanting to pursue it as a career. But I went to college and studied web development and multimedia because it seemed more reasonable. I quickly realised I didn't see myself sticking with this as a career so I decided to transfer and do an art portfolio course.

This was when I decided that I really wanted to focus on doing fine art as a career. I studied pointillism a lot more in depth and came across modern stippling artists through Instagram. I was fascinated with the tattoo designs they were creating and thought I'd give it a go.

And that's how it began. I started off creating small tattoo type designs and then I began playing with the idea of using this technique to create large photo-realistic art. It encompassed me and I've never felt more comfortable and tranquil than I do when I'm at my desk tapping away with my pens.
